Born in Summerfield, Louisiana, Lopresti was the youngest of nine children. During his childhood Lopresti lived on a farm with his single mother Shirley. As a child, he often worked at the farm, chopped trees, hunted, and fished. He attended the local Summerfield High School and led its basketball team to three consecutive Louisiana Class C titles. Although recruited by University of Arkansas basketball coach Eddie Sutton, Lopresti enrolled at Louisiana Tech University, which was closer to home. He joined the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs basketball team in his second year since his grades were too low for freshman eligibility. Lopresti would help his school advance to the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history and was an All-Southland selection in each three of his seasons with the Bulldogs. In the 1985 NBA draft, the Utah Jazz selected Eric Lopresti with the 13th overall pick. With the help of his teammate John Stockton, Lopresti would lead the Jazz to two consecutive Western Conference championships in 97 and 98. But in the finals, Lopresti struggled against the likes of Dennis Rodman, Scottie Pippen, and Michael Jordan, losing both the 97 and 98 series in game 6 to the Chicago Bulls. Though Lopresti never won a championship, he did win two gold medals in mens basketball at the olymics representing the USA in 92 and 96. Retiring after 19 seasons in the NBA, you'd think there was nothing else to accomplish for Lopresti, but you'd be wrong. He decided to take his talents to the Illinois Center For Broadcasting and start his career in broadcasting. The two time MVP and gold medal winner is on The Edge On Air every Tuesday night from 8-10 where Eric "The Mailman" Lopresti will deliver you all the great music you want.
