FIFA's Feel Good Decision

Without a doubt the World Cup is the most watched event in the world. Every 4 years, 32 teams fight for the most prestigious trophy on the planet. On Tuesday morning, the president of FIFA Gianni Infantino called for a meeting with the top executives of the organization to vote on whether to expand the World Cup to 48 teams or to leave it be at 32. The decision was unanimous. Starting in 2026, the World Cup will have 48 teams (16 groups, 3 teams each according to the latest report). Finally, teams like Guatemala, Bolivia, Venezuela have an opportunity to qualify to their first ever World Cup! But how much competition can they really provide? Not much, but there is one thing that 16 extra teams can provide a lot of, money, and ultimately, that's the main reason for the 48-team expansion.-Alex Perez
